Arthur O'Brien
Arthur O’Brien Lead Vocal, Guitar, Fiddle. From Bay Bulls, Arthur has been performing since his early school days, and is known all over the province and beyond for his powerful entertaining performance of original and traditional music.
At 16 he began performing at some local events and businesses in the tourist rich town, most notably a few summers of performing at the popular Gatherall’s Boat Tour for seniors and other bus tours, honing his skills as a musician and entertainer. Taking up the fiddle at 19, Arthur learned from the famed award winning fiddler Kelly Russell igniting a lifelong love of the instrument and its music.
As a solo artist, he released a self-titled CD in 1997, and performing as Arthur O’Brien and the Fat Catlicks, a hard hitting NL Celtic sound, before joining the popular and talented band Connemara for 3 years in 1997. In early 2000, Arthur joined Nova Scotia-based Celtic powerhouse Cuilin, and recorded an amazing full-length Album with 2 time Grammy Award winning producer Wayne Simone (aka Gordie Sampson!), supported by an extensive American tour. In July of 2000 Arthur began to play with long-time friend Fred Jorgensen and renown fiddler Colin Carrigan and by November of that year The Navigator’s were formed and a musical partnership created that is still going to this day! Off-stage Arthur is the proud father of three children, loves skiing, hiking, and biking and is an avid cook!
